Journal 5: My Thesis Statement

1. Zora Neale Hurston uses the symbol of mules/work animals to show how women of the time were in a second slavery to their men. Hurston does this to show how oppressive nautre will destroy relationships regardless of race, gender, or creed.

2. I posted comments on Anthony Nyguen, Kevin Li, and Isabella Lewis' blogs.

  1. You misspelled "nature." Also what does creed mean and how is it relevant?

  2. Creed is like religious beliefs, and yeah I mixed up the "u" and "t". Creed is relevant because it shows that the theme is prevalent past just what is in the book.

  4. I like your thesis a lot, my only question is why do the work animals distinctly represent Women as opposed to the oppressed in general?

  5. Great thesis Montana. I dont recall any instances where work animals are compaired to women, so maybe think of taking that out and just leaving it as mules because it makes it more specific.

  6. Yeah, just edit "work animals" out and you've got a fine thesis statement.
